Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official of the United American. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
